Edward S. Szurkowski, Ph.D.

Edward S. Szurkowski is the founder and Managing Partner of the Blue Mill Group. He personally directs all major projects undertaken by the firm.

Dr. Szurkowski has over 25 years of experience in R&D, both in senior leadership roles, and as an individual contributor. For the past several years, he has focused on the significant challenges of transitioning new research and technology results into profitable commercial products and services.

Prior to founding the Blue Mill Group, Dr. Szurkowski was Vice President of the Wireless and Broadband Access Research Center at Bell Laboratories, Alcatel-Lucent, in Murray Hill, New Jersey, where he led more than 150 hardware and software engineers in the US and Europe. His organization was charged with creating innovative technology in communications and networking and then rapidly transforming these results into unique offers for commercial and government customers. Under Dr. Szurkowski's leadership, new products and services in wireless, optical & data networking, satellite systems, and software were brought to market with projected incremental annual revenues of $200+ million.

In earlier roles at Bell Labs, Dr. Szurkowski managed R&D, technology transfer and new product introduction programs for packet voice (VoIP), video-on-demand for CATV, interactive television, and electronic publishing.

Dr. Szurkowski has substantial personal design experience with embedded & real-time systems, systems programming (OS/kernels/drivers, protocols, C/assembler), analog/digital hardware design, FPGAs, microprocessors, and related technologies used in RF & wireless, optical, and LAN/WAN data networking products.

Dr. Szurkowski received his BSEE, MSEE and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Delaware. He has 20+ US patents issued or pending. He is a US citizen and has an active security clearance.

Staff

The Blue Mill Group maintains an in-house hardware/software R&D capability with substantial experience managing initial production of products to support customer trials and early market introductions. These capabilities are augmented with independent experts and firms from the external development community, or from the client's existing resources, as required by a specific project. Regardless of the structure of the project team, the Blue Mill Group typically assumes full program management responsibility for meeting the objectives defined with the client.
